On Monday, December 14, 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has final approval to award 6.2 million U.S. dollars to the Arizona Department of Commerce Energy Office to Arizona's Appliance Discount to run a program funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009.

The program has one major goal: help individual consumers to replace old and inefficient appliances with new Energy Star appliances are generally 15% -50% more energy efficient than devices that are not Energy Star qualified.
