WAPA-TV is a full-power independent television station located in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico transmitting on digital channel 27, virtual channel 4. The station is owned by Intermedia Partners and is branded as WAPA TV. WAPA-TV has two full-power satellite stations: WTIN, channel 14.1 in Ponce and WNJX-TV, channel 22.1 in Mayagüez. Both stations are owned by Intermedia Partners. WAPA also streams programming on its website. WAPA TV is the second TV channel to be licensed in Puerto Rico and began broadcasting on 05/01/1954. The call letters are an abbreviation of partial original owners of the station, the now defunct Asociación de Productores de Azucar, or Puerto Rico Sugar Grower's Association. During the first years the station was affiliated with NBC, ABC, Dumont, and CMQ Television Network. On December 17, 2007, the station changed branding "Televicentro 'to' wapa ', in lowercase. Following the name, the channel began to develop a new format, changing the jingle and recreate their TV website.WAPA a contract with Miss Puerto Rico Universe by giving a reality show, signed with the title "Por la corona" starting on August 15, 2008''. The audience chooses SMS, with five of the classification of the participants directly to the semifinals of the election.
