' West Side Story' Youth Theater

Youth theater to present 'West Side Story':

Bend Experimental Art Theater will present "West Side Story" at 7 hours 1-3 April, with an additional 2 pm show April 3. All shows take place at the Summit High School, 2855 NW Clearwater Drive, Bend.

The play, directed and choreographed by Mary Kilpatrick, stars 40 young actors from Central Oregon.

Based on the book by Arthur Laurents, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the play is loosely based on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet. "Set in New York in the 1950s, the story follows Maria - the sister of the leader of the Sharks, a Puerto Rican street gang - as they love with Tony, a member of a rival gang.

Tickets are $ 15 for adults and $ 10 for students ages 18 and younger.
